Auron

Auron is the legendary guardian who accompanied High Summoner Braska on his pilgrimage ten years ago. He's also a friend of Tidus's. He is somewhat taciturn, but he knows what's going on a lot better than most of the party. He has little patience for fooling around. Still, he is a steadfast warrior and will be a great help on your pilgrimage.

Auron's section of the Sphere Grid focuses heavily on Strength and HP nodes. By the time he's done, he should be the strongest member of your party, and should have the highest HP. Since many of his weapons have the Piercing ability, he's very good at killing the heavily armoured creatures that resist attacks from Tidus, Wakka, or Kimahri. In addition, his "Break" abilities are very useful in reducing the power of your enemies. After he finishes his section of the Sphere Grid, you might want to send him through Tidus's section to increase his speed and accuracy.

Auron's Overdrive: Bushido Blade

Each of Auron's Overdrives requires that you input a series of button presses in a specific order. (If you have played Final Fantasy VI or Final Fantasy VIII, they work like Sabin's Blitzes or Zell's Duel Limit Break.) You have a limited amount of time to execute the button sequence, but if you do, the Overdrive will inflict a specific status ailment (or many of them) on an enemy. If the enemy is immune to the status ailment, the Overdrive will do greater damage to compensate for that. The faster you input the button sequence, the more damage Auron will do. Auron learns new Overdrives by finding the various Jecht Spheres scattered throughout Spira.

Auron's Overdrives
Overdrive Targets Status Ailment Spheres Needed
Dragon Fang All enemies Delay None (Default Overdrive)
Shooting Star One enemy Eject One
Banishing Blade One enemy Power Break, Armour Break, Mental Break, Magic Break Three
Tornado All enemies None Ten (all of them)
