Boss Guideby Lassarina Aoibhell This guide is something new I'm trying to do. It's neither a walkthrough nor a bestiary, but more like a combination of the two. What you'll find here is a list, in order, of all the bosses in the game, including a table of contents so you can skip straight to the relevant one. This guide includes a boss's HP and MP, the items you can steal, what it will drop, and preparations and in-battle strategies. Please be aware that boss names can be spoilers! It doesn't cover anything else in the game, so if you're looking for that, check the Walkthroughs Page. I've tried to make this guide as complete and accurate as I can. Steal my work and I promise you will die a slow and painful death.
Other Hades Ozma Disc One
Preparations: None Tactics: Have Cinna steal while Zidane and Blank attack.
Preparations: None Tactics: Use Vivi's magic while Zidane and Marcus attack. Garnet should heal the party.
Preparations: None Tactics: Have Zidane and Marcus attack while Garnet heals the party and Vivi uses magic.
Preparations: Make sure you have plenty of Potions! Tactics: During the first half of this battle, Garnet is held captive by the Prison Cage, which will drain her HP. Hit it hard and fast and use Potions to heal her. Vivi should repeatedly cast Fire while Zidane and Steiner use physical attacks. Zidane will Trance, so make sure you take advantage of the added power this gives you. During the second part of the fight, Prison Cage captures Vivi. Vivi will continually cast Fire, so have Steiner attack and Zidane steal. Use Potions to heal yourself.
Preparations: None Tactics: Steal Baku's items and attack. Use Potions if your HP is depleted.
Preparations: If you have it in your inventory, equip Steiner with the Iron Sword. Give Vivi the Leather Wrist and Silk Shirt. Tactics: Have Vivi cast Fire constantly and use Steiner's Magic Sword. Zidane should steal. Don't forget to keep your party's HP high. Use Eye Drops when the boss uses Pollen. Blank will join you partway through, so have him help Vivi and Steiner whittle away the boss's HP. >
Preparations: Make sure Zidane has his best armour and weapon equipped. The Mage Masher is your best choice. Tactics: Keep Zidane's HP high with Potions. It is worthwhile to put off attacking until you've stolen all the available items, because they're really nice. When Zidane Trances, unleash Tidal Flame on them both.
Preparations: Make sure Vivi has the Leather Wrist equipped. Buy Bronze Armor for Steiner and make sure he has Bird Killer equipped. Tactics: Have Dagger use Protect and Cure on the party. This enemy's weakness is Fire, but he retaliates if you attack him with anything other than Blizzard. Therefore, Vivi should cast Blizzard and Steiner should either attack or use Blizzard Sword. Zidane should steal and attack.
Preparations: See the list for Black Waltz #2 above. Tactics: Zidane should steal everything this boss has, because he's carrying great items. Dagger should cure everyone, while Vivi and Steiner use Thunder attacks. Make sure that you stop attacking and only steal or cure when it lifts into the air.
Preparations: Equip Zidane with The Ogre. Tactics: Have Zidane use Soul Blade to blind Gizamaluke, and then steal every turn thereafter until you get all the goodies this boss has. Quina should heal the party, and cast Mighty Guard if possible. Have Freya jump while Vivi casts Thunder.
Preparations: Equip Vivi with the Lightning Staff and Magus Hat. Give Zidane the Bandit ability. Freya should equip the Mythril Spear. Tactics: Have Freya cast Reis's Wind first thing, and recast as necessary. Then have her and Quina focus on healing Vivi, as Beatrix will focus her attacks solely on him until he is wiped out. In the meantime, have Zidane steal every turn. Once you've gotten all of the lovely general's lovely items, pound her into the ground with Thundara and Blizzara. Mighty Guard is a help if you have it. Once you've depleted half her HP she will use Shock on your party. Disc Two
Preparations: None Tactics: Marcus should steal, while Steiner attacks and Dagger cures and uses Protect.
Preparations: Make sure both Dagger and Steiner have Antibody equipped. Tactics: Dagger should cast Protect and Cure as needed. Marcus should steal while Steiner attacks.
Preparations: Equip Desert Boots on as many characters as possible. Tactics: Have Freya cast Reis's Wind immediately. The Antlion will retaliate against physical attacks, so use skills and magic. Vivi should use Blizzara. Have Quina either cast Mighty Guard or Aqua Breath, while Zidane steals and uses his Thief's skills.
Preparations: Equip Mythril Gloves to Freya and a Bandana to Zidane. This will allow you to equip them with the Man Eater ability. Make sure Vivi can cast Slow. Tactics: Start the fight by casting Slow, Mighty Guard, and Reis's Wind. Then have Zidane steal, Vivi cast Blizzara and Quina and Freya attack. Again, when you've cut down half her HP, she will take your party out.
Preparations: None Tactics: Zidane should steal. Use a physical attack on the appropriate twin to negate Flare Power or Meteor Power. Freya should use Reis's wind. Have Vivi cast Slow and then use Blizzara, while Steiner uses the Blizzara Sword.
Preparations: Equip Man Eater on anyone who can. Tactics: Vivi should use Slow and Blizzara, while Freya uses Reis's Wind and her jump ability. Have Steiner either attack or use Blizzara Sword while Zidane makes off with the lovely lady's goodies.
Preparations: None Tactics: Have Dagger cast Shell and Protect on everyone. Vivi should cast Ice spells while Zidane steals. When the boss coils up, stop attacking, and heal and keep trying to steal its items. You can continue to cast Blizzara during this time.
Preparations: Equip Man Eater on Zidane and make sure Dagger can summon Ramuh Tactics: Have Dagger cast Protect and Shell on herself. Lani will focus her attacks on the Princess, so just have Dagger keep herself alive. Vivi should cast Fira, Blizzara, or Thundara. Have Quina attack, while Zidane steals the busty bounty hunter's treasures.
Preparations: Equip Man Eater on Zidane. Tactics: Have Dagger or Eiko cast Float on the party. Vivi should cast Bio or Thundara, and Dagger should summon Ramuh. Have Eiko heal and recast Float as necesary while Zidane steals. This boss has a very nice item--the Fairy Flute--but it's damn near impossible to get, so be aware of that.
Preparations: Equip Auto-Potion and Undead Killer. Make sure Eiko can summon Phoenix. Tactics: Have Dagger cure the party. Eiko should summon Phoenix whenever a party member is KO'd. Use Zidane's Trance if he Trances, and have him keep stealing otherwise. Vivi should stick to status spells like Slow, as Fire magic will cause a nasty retaliation.
Preparations: Equip Zidane with Man Eater, Auto-Potion and High Tide Tactics: Only attack the boss when he's in the center of the battle area. When Zidane Trances, you don't need a high powered Dyne attack to take this boss out. Disc Three
Preparations: This is an optional boss. Equip Demon Killer if available, and give everyone Antibody and either Auto-Regen or Auto-Potion. Give Amarant the Poison Knuckles and equip Bandit on Zidane. Tactics: Cause the book form 150 to 200 points of damage. This causes it to reveal its true form. Stop attacking when it reveals its demon form! Use only skills or magic. Cast Freya's Reis's Wind to help heal your party.
Preparations: Equip everyone with Clear Headed. Equip Chemist on Freya if possible. Tactics: Have Freya cast Reis's Wind and either jump (if she cannot equip Chemist) or use Potions and Hi-Potions to heal the rest of the party if she can use Chemist. Use Steiner's Power Break and Armor Break skills if he is in your party. Have Zidane steal and Amarant attack. Quina should attack. Hopefully you left the mages in the Desert Palace.
Preparations: Make sure you equip the N-Kai Armlet to Vivi and make sure Dagger can summon Leviathan. Tactics: Have Vivi and Steiner use Water-elemental attacks. If you left any of your other heavy hitters behind, have them pound on Valia Pira. Dagger should summon Leviathan and she or Eiko must cure the party.
Preparations: Equip everyone with Antibody and Demon Killer if possible. Tactics: Cast Mini against Meltigemini and use Vaccines when they infect you with Virus. Other than that, steal and pound them into the ground.
Preparations: Equip everyone with Auto-Potion or Auto-Regen. Make sure Dagger can summon Bahamut and Vivi can cast Flare. Tactics: Have Freya use Reis's Wind. Have Vivi and Steiner use Flare attacks while Dagger summons Bahamut. When the boss curls up, use skills like Zidane's Thievery.
Preparations: Equip Demon Killer and Bandit. Tactics: Have Quina use Mighty Guard and Bad Breath. Zidane should steal, and use his Dyne attacks if he Trances.
Preparations: Equip abilities that protect against status ailments, especially Locomotion, and try to equip Man Eater on as many people as possible. Tactics: Have Eiko summon Madeen and Dagger summon Bahamut. Make sure you save some MP though, as there are two more boss fights right after this one. Also, make sure you steal. The Dragon Mail is a great item. Make use of powerful physical attacks and Zidane's Thievery or Freya's Dragon Crest.
Preparations: See the Silver Dragon above. Equip Boost on Dagger and Eiko if you have the ability stones to spare. Tactics: Use skills like Zidane's Thievery and Freya's Dragon Crest on this boss. Have Steiner perform his most powerful attack skills, while Vivi casts Flare and Dagger summons Bahamut or heals. Eiko should heal or summon Madeen. And of course, steal steal steal!
Preparations: None Tactics: Have Quina cast Lv4 Holy if s/he knows it. Eiko should summon Madeen and Dagger should summon Bahamut; both should heal as necessary. Have Freya cast Reis's Wind and then cast Dragon Crest every turn, while Zidane uses Thievery and steals. Steiner should use his most powerful attack skills, while Vivi casts his best magic. Disc Four
Preparations: Use Freya, Steiner, Zidane, and Dagger. Equip Zidane with Bandit and Freya with the Dragon Killer ability. Equip Steiner, Zidane, and Freya with Bird Killer. Tactics: Zidane should steal this boss's excellent items. Have Freya cast Reis's Wind and then repeatedly use Dragon Crest. Steiner should use Shock and his "Break" skills. Dagger should heal the party and summon Bahamut or Ark (if you've already beaten Ozma and won the Pumice from him).
Preparations: Equip Body Temp on everyone. Tactics: Have Vivi cast Blizzaga and Dagger summon Shiva, while Zidane steals and Steiner, Freya, or Amarant attacks.
Preparations: Equip everyone with items that absorb or negate Wind damage, and make sure everyone has Clear Headed equipped. Tactics: Have Eiko summon Fenrir and Vivi cast Meteor. Steiner should use Shock, Freya should use Six Dragons, and Amarant should use No Mercy, while Zidane steals.
Preparations: Use armor that nullifies or absorbs water, and the Body Temp ability. Tactics: Steal. Use Thievery, Dragon's Crest, Shock, Firaga, Ifrit, and No Mercy. Take out the tentacles first, as these can cause nasty damage to your party.
Preparations: Equip Locomotion. Have Eiko equip a Moonstone. Tactics: Have Eiko summon Madeen or Fenrir (if equipped with a Moonstone.) Use Shock, Thievery, Dragon Crest, or No Mercy depending on who's in your party. Dagger should summon Bahamut or Ark, or heal the party. Use Quina's Twister spell if you can.
Preparations: Equip Bug Killer and Bird Killer and Demon Killer. Tactics: Pound this boss with your most powerful attacks, physical and magical. Make sure you leave the room and save afterward!
Preparations: Equip Freya with High Jump. Use Auto-Life, Auto-Reflect, Counter, and High Tide. Tactics: Have Eiko use Carbuncle to cast either Reflect or Shell on your party, and keep both her and Dagger in the party to heal. Use powerful physical attacks rather than magic. Unleash Grand Lethal as soon as Zidane Trances.
Preparations: Equip Jelly, Antibody, Clear Headed, Loudmouth, High Tide, Auto-Regen and Auto-Life. Add Boost if you have the ability stones for it. Equip people with Pumice Pieces or Demon's Mail/Demon's Vest to protect against Shadow damage. Tactics: Go all-out. Summon Madeen and cast Holy. Use Shock, Thievery, Dragon Crest, No Mercy, and Flare. Do not cast Doomsday, as it will heal Necron. Summon Bahamut and keep your HP high! Simply unload on this boss with every attack your party has, because this is it.
Preparations: Equip Bright Eyes, Auto-Life, Antibody, Clear Headed, Loudmouth, Body Temp and Auto-Regen. Tactics: DO NOT have Dagger summon Ark, as it will heal Hades. Use Shock, Thievery, Dragon Crest, No Mercy, and cast Flare and summon Bahamut or Madeen. Holy is also a good choice. Have Quina use Lv4 Holy.
Preparations: Equip Antibody, Clear Headed, and armor or accessories that absorb Shadow damage. Use a party of Eiko, Freya, Steiner, and Zidane, especially if you have completed the Friendly Monsters quest. Tactics: Cast Holy and summon Madeen. Use Gysahl Greens to undo Berserk. Use Shock, Dragon Crest and Thievery to pound Ozma, and remember that when he casts Doomsday it will heal him for 9999. Ozma is also capable of casting Curaga on itself, so you have to hit hard and fast and make sure you take him down quickly. USE YOUR TRANCES.
