Gau's special skill, Rage, is slow and difficult to build up. You can only do so by fighting on the Veldt and choosing the "Leap" command. There are 255 Rages he can learn (including one boss's Rage), and you must have fought the creature previously to encounter it on the Veldt. Once the skill is learned, Gau will return to your party. You can use his skills with the "Rage" command. Once a Rage is selected, Gau will continue to use it for the remainder of the battle, and you lose control of him.
