Boss Guide

by Lassarina Aoibhell

Welcome. This guide gives full stats and boss fight strategies for all bosses in Final Fantasy X, in order. I've provided a link to each boss's section so that you won't inadvertently spoil the game for yourself scrolling through and looking for it. This guide is currently incomplete, though I am working on it. I apologise for any inconvenience. Please be aware that this guide inherently contains spoilers!

  • Elemental information will list elements that the creature is weak against, absorbs, is immune to, or takes half damage from.
  • The number in parentheses under HP indicates how much damage the killing blow must inflict to count for Overkill. Numbers in parentheses under AP indicate the AP bonus for Overkilling.
  • The number under MP is how much you can Osmose from the enemy. Spells the enemy casts do not affect this number.
  • Resistance to status effects is given on a scale of 0 to 255. The lower the number, the weaker it is against that status effect.
  • The number in parentheses after "Poison" tells you how much HP the enemy will lose per turn when poisoned.
  • The number in parentheses after "Doom" tells you how many turns it will take for Doom to take effect.
  • Rare drops occur one time in eight. Rare stolen items will turn up one time in four.
  • Equipment abilities indicate what abilities will be attached to the equipment the enemy drops.

Auron's Overdrive gauge automatically fills at the beginning of this fight. Go ahead and use his Dragon Fang attack against your enemies. You must press buttons quickly in the correct sequence to get a more powerful attack. Don't bother using Auron's Power Break, because this boss only uses one attack--casting Demi. Just keep hacking at it and you will defeat it. Its tentacles gradually disappear as you reduce its HP. You need not use Potions to keep your HP high. Demi is a percentage attack, meaning that it alone can't kill you. Auron's Overdrive should have wiped out the lesser Sinspawns, so don't worry about that.

Don't let the ultra-high HP give you a heart attack. You need only inflict 90 HP of damage to escape it. Hit it three times to accomplish this. You will then run away like the scared little weenie you are.

Just trade strikes with the Klikk. If Tidus gets two turns in a row, use the opportunity to heal yourself with a Potion. After a few turns, you'll receive some thoroughly unexpected help. WHen it's the gilr's turn, choose the Special command, then Use, and fire a Grenade at the Klikk. Have Tidus continue to attack, and the girl Steal. Let her use the Grenades she steals against the boss. You'll get a tiny bit of AP after the battle, and Tidus should gain a Sphere level. You'll also get two Ability Spheres and a bit of Gil.

Begin the fight by casting Cheer. Have Tidus attack and the girl use Grenades. When Tros moves out of attack range, access the Trigger Command Stand By. This will recover a small amount of HP. Tros will launch a powerful attack against you. Use Potions to heal yourself, then go back to attacking and using Grenades. When it runs away again, check Tidus's Trigger Command. You should be able to choose Pincer attack, which will allow both Tidus and Rikku to inflict more damage. (You may have to wait through another round of Nautilus Charge and Trigger Commands for this option to become available.) The Pincer Attack also prevents Tros from using the Nautilus Charge.

Sin's presence is announced by waves of Sincscales. They have 400 HP each (you must do 200 HP of damage to Overkill) and yield 2 AP (3 if Overkilled.) After destroying the first round of Sinscales, you'll be instructed to attack Sin itself. Thereafter, destroy two of the three Sinscales in front of you to reduce the damage you take, and focus on Sin. Use Kimahri's Lancet, Wakka's regular attack, and Lulu's Black Magic to defeat Sin, as you can only use long-range attacks. Swap in Yuna to heal, and Tidus to use Cheer. You should defeat it fairly easily.

This battle is just Tidus and Wakka. Use Cheer to improve your physical stats, and have Wakka use Dark Attack to keep you safe from the fiend's powerful attacks. Ignore the Sinscales. After using two Drain Touch attacks, Sinspawn Echuilles will strike with Blender, which can really damage you. Use Potions or Hi-Potions to recover HP, and don't forget to re-use Dark Attack when it wears off!

You should make an effort to have all of your party members in on this battle, since the AP reward is quite nice. Have Tidus cast Haste on Lulu, and then keep her in the party constantly casting Fire spells. Wakka should use Silence Attack to keep down the boss's spellcasting. Bring Yuna in to heal when necessary, and have Kimahri use physical attacks.

When the boss's HP drops below 2000, it will fall asleep. While sleeping, it regenerates HP, so attack it physically to wake it up. Once you do, though, it'll use the very nasty Earthquake attack. To avoid this, you might want to have Yuna summon Valefor and let him finish the battle, since Earthquake doesn't affect him.

Sinspawn Geneaux also has two tentacles. They have 450 HP each (inflict 500 or more damage to Overkill) and yield 5 AP each (7 if Overkilled). The tentacles absorb any magic cast on the body, so have Tidus Haste Lulu and then have her cast Fire on the tentacles repeatedly until they die. Kimahri should have a Piercing weapon equipped, so have him attack the body. Bring Yuna in to cast Cure and Esuna on poisoned characters; she can also summon Valefor if you'd like to try using Sonic Wings to delay Sinspawn Geneaux's turn. Have Wakka attack the tentacles. Once the tentacles are gone, the body unravels and you can start using normal attacks. Make sure you use Wakka's Silence Attack to prevent it from casting Water, and have Lulu keep casting Fire.

This boss fight is kind of rough. Start it out by casting Haste on Lulu. When you notice the crane off to the side, have Lulu spend her turns casting Thunder on the crane to start it up. Kimahri and Tidus should attack the boss physically. Once the crane has started, Tidus will get a Trigger Command. Use it to seriously mess up Oblitzerator, taking off a massive amount of HP and immobilizing it. (If you're really clever, you can energize the crane and then attack like mad to bring its HP down to a nice, low level before using the crane to guarantee an Overkill.) Once you've ripped it up with the crane, use physical attacks and Thunder spells to take it down.

You don't have to win this battle, but the AP is nice, as are the rewards. Have Wakka use Dark Attack to blind the Chocobo Eater, and have Tidus cast Haste on Lulu. She should then start casting Fire spells. Bring Auron in to use Power Break, and Kimahri to get his AP. Once you knock the Chocobo Eater onto its back, you can do normal damage even with non-piercing weapons. Have Yuna use Grand Summon to get Ifrit with his Overdrive already charged up, and use that for the Overkill. For winning this battle you'll get the Lv. 1 Key Spheres, plus Rin will let you ride a Chocobo for free.

*The first number and the Overkill amount apply to the first battle, the second number to the second battle. AP is awarded after the second battle.

Start with Tidus, Wakka, and Lulu. Have Tidus cast Haste, then swap him out for Yuna. When the head starts to move, have either Wakka attack it or Lulu cast a spell on it to negate its upcoming Venom attack, which will poison characters. Take the head out first, and then bring in Auron and Kimahri to pummel the body. Take out the arms first, which shield the body (Lulu's "-ara" spells will take out arms in one hit). The arms regenerate every third turn, but once the body goes down, the battle is over.

The second part of this battle involves Auron, Seymour and Yuna. Yuna's job here is to heal while Auron attacks and Seymour casts powerful black magic. Seymour's magic makes this easy, and you get your duly earned AP at the end of this battle.

Before this battle begins, every character who physically attacks should equip a non-elemental weapon. Spherimorph's elemental weakness changes constantly. Wait until it casts a spell on your party, then cast the opposite on it. (Fire and Blizzard spells are opposites, as are Water and Thunder spells.) Each time you correctly cast a spell on the boss, it will change its elemental weakness and you must wait again for it to cast a spell on you so that you can determine its weakness. Yuna and Lulu will be your party's mainstays, although you should bring everyone else in to defend for a turn so everyone can share in the HP. If Yuna hits Overdrive, wait until the boss's HP is at 2000 or below, and when its elemental weakness is Fire or Thunder, Grand Summon either Ifrit or Ixion and use their Overdrive for a sure Overkill.

Crawler is accompanied by the Negator, which has 1000 HP (inflict 1000 damage to Overkill) and yields 220 AP (330 if Overkilled.) While the Negator is present, you cannot use magic or summons. So keep Yuna and Lulu out of the fight at first and use Wakka's long-range attacks to defeat the Negator while Tidus, Auron, and Kimahri chip away at the Crawler. Once Negator is down, bring Lulu in and have her cast her strongest Thunder spells on Crawler. Once Negator is gone, Crawler will countdown to the Mana Beam. For a quick, cheap way to avoid this powerful attack, summon Ixion and have him use Shield to deflect the blast. (He can heal himself by casting Thundara on himself if his HPs get low.)

Seymour is accompanied by two Guado Guardian flunkies, who have 2000 HP each (inflict 2000 damage to Overkill) and yield 290 AP (435 if Overkilled). Before doing anything, bring in Tidus, Yuna, and Wakka and use their Trigger Commands. Tidus's will raise his Strength and Yuna's will raise her Magic Defense, while Wakka's is merely conversational. The next thing you should do is bring Rikku in and have her steal from each Guado Guardian. Once you've stolen Potions from them, they cannot use their Auto-Potion ability. Have Tidus cast Haste on Yuna. Meanwhile, bring in Kimahri and have him defend to get his share of the AP. Once you've done all of that, you can set up your actual effective party of Tidus, Yuna, and Auron.

Haste on Yuna is key. Now that you have your party set up, Yuna should start casting her Nul spells to protect the party from Seymour's magic. Meanwhile have Tidus cast Haste on himself and Auron. Take down the Guado Guardians first, as they will cast protective magic on Seymour while they are alive Once they are gone, Seymour will summon Anima. A few turns later, someone will remind Yuna that she just got a new aeon. Summon the aeon whose name appears as "????" in the menu. The Ice Queen Shiva obediently appears. Anima will Boost and use Pain; Shiva should just cast her Blizzara spells on herself to keep her health high. When she hits Overdrive, use Diamond Dust for a solid 9999 of damage to Anima, then repeat the process. Two hits will defeat Seymour's aeon.

The third stage of this battle is the hardest. Dismiss Shiva as soon as Anima goes down, because Seymour will just kill any aeon that is summoned. Have Yuna use her Nul spells and the curative spells to keep the party alive. Lulu, meanwhile, should come in briefly to cast Bio on Seymour. Have Tidus attack and Auron use Magic Break while Yuna keeps everyone alive. Fortunately, the AP reward for this battle is hefty.

The Wendigo is accompanied by two Guado Guardians, who have 1200 HP each (1432 damage to Overkill) and yield 290 AP each (580 for Overkilling.) You'll want to use an aeon's Overdrive to get rid of them as quickly as possible. As a parting gift, they cast Berserk on the Wendigo, as well as some protective spells. Use Auron's Threaten to remove the Berserk condition. Wakka's Sleep Attack will put the Wendigo temporarily out of commission. Make sure to rotate all of your party members in so everyone can share in the AP. Have Tidus cast Haste on Lulu, and then have her repeatedly cast Fira. If the Wendigo wakes up, use Kimahri's Jinx and Auron's Power and Armor Break skills to weaken it and reduce the threat it represents.

The first thing you should do is cast Slow on Evrae, followed up by casting Haste on Tidus and Rikku. Use their Trigger Commands to keep the ship away from Evrae. If you can keep the airship away from Evrae for two of Cid's turns, on the second turn he'll fire the airship's cannons at Evrae. When Evrae inhales, it will cast Poison Breath its next turn. Have Rikku Use Al Bhed Potions both for healing, and to counter status effects. While Evrae is far away, use Wakka and Lulu to attack, although Lulu will have little effect unless she knows the -aga spells. When it is close in, use Tidus, Auron, and Kimahri for physical attacks.

Seymour is accompanied by a little buddy named Mortibody, who has 4000 HP. The first thing you'll want to do is have Yuna, Tidus, and Auron use their Trigger Commands. Then have Yuna cast Reflect on Seymour. At this point there are a few ways to tackle this battle. If you don't mind sacrificing aeons, build them all up to Overdrive before this fight starts, and summon them one after another and use their Overdrives to pound Seymour into the ground--but Seymour will kill an aeon after its first turn, so you'll need to use the Overdrive right away. If you don't want to do it that way, then attack Mortibody. Directly attacking Seymour causes nasty retaliation, but when the Mortibody is drained of HP, it sucks some away from Seymour. Keep hurting Mortibody and it will eventually drain Seymour dry.

Have Rikku steal quickly while Tidus casts Haste on Yuna and Auron. Have Auron use Mental Break and Armor Break. Wakka should use Dark Attack. Yuna should cast Protect and Cura on the party members as needed. Bring Lulu in once Mental Break has been accomplished and have her cast the -aga spells. You'll need to keep Yuna for healing, and use a physical powerhouse (I recommend Auron) for your third. When Yuna hits Overdrive, Grand Summon an aeon, use their Overdrive, and then Dismiss them quickly if you can, because Defender X will beat them up badly.

This can be a tough battle if you have not been levelling Kimahri up very much. Start by using Mighty Guard if you have it. Then pick one and pound on him. You can use Aqua Breath if the two Ronso are standing together, or you can use Fire Breath when they split apart. Use Lancet on both multiple times to acquire up to 8 new Ronso Rages (see listing in table.) Keeping Kimahri healthy is key. Once you've taken down one Ronso, the other will go nuts and start inflicting extra damage. Make good use of healing items and Overdrives. Mighty Guard is incredibly helpful.

Seymour casts Lance of Atrophy, which causes Zombie, and then casts Full-Life on the affected character. You'll only have one turn in between to use Holy Water to cure it. Moreover, Cross Cleave takes down 2500 HP per character, and Mortiorchis has a powerful Total Annihilation attack. Seymour also casts Flare. In other words, this is one tough battle.

As far as I'm concerned, there's really only one worthwhile and efficient way to kill Seymour and Mortiorchis. Before the fight, build all of Yuna's aeons up to Overdrive, as well as all the other characters. Use Yuna, Kimahri, and Tidus's Trigger Commands, and have Tidus cast Haste on Yuna and Kimahri use Mighty Guard. Then summon your aeons, one after another. I start with Valefor and work my way up, but it's your choice. Seymour will kill aeons after their first turn, but with all five aeons you can do a solid 55,000 damage out of Seymour's total of 70,000, plus Mortiorchis will drain probably another 9,000 to 12,000 (like Mortibody, he drains HP from Seymour when his is depleted). After that, hit them with a couple more Overdrives (Tidus and Auron have good hit-all-enemies ones) and they'll be history.

Doing it the long way is much more complicated. Have Tidus, Yuna, and Kimahri use their Trigger Commands in the first round to boost their Strength or Magic Defense. Have Tidus use Hastega and Kimahri cast Mighty Guard. Seymour will sometimes use Dispel on your party, which takes away all your support magic. Use Bio on Seymour if possible. When Mortiorchis charges up Total Annihilation, bring Auron in to deplete all its HP so it has to suck life from Seymour before it can charge its attack again. Use Mega-Potions to recover from Total Annihilation. And finally, use aeons to finish Seymour off. (As you can see, it's MUCH easier to power them up beforehand and just use them to wipe the floor with him.)

Start with Yuna, Tidus, and Auron. Cast Haste and Protect on everyone, and use Auron's Armor Break and Mental Break (or his Banishing Blade Overdrive) to reduce the Keeper's defenses. Cast Slow and then Reflect on Sanctuary Keeper, and start summoning Overdriven aeons (which will be despatched after one turn, so make it count). When Sanctuary Keeper gets below half of its HP, it casts Curaga on itself--with Reflect on it, your characters benefit. Equipping armour that protects against Darkness, Silence, Confusion, and Sleep will also be helpful in defending against the Photon Wings attack. Sanctuary Keeper can also cause Curse, which prevents you from using your Overdrives. Use Holy Water to cure it.

Spectral Keeper is difficult because it can just one-shot kill characters and it counterattacks rather brutally. Berserk Ward and Berserkproof are your best friends in this battle, particularly the latter. Remove all weapons with Counter abilities. Your first move should be Hastega. Move two characters to circles behind Spectral Keeper, leaving the one with the highest HP to face its wrath. Cast Protect on that character, and then have him or her attack. Spectral Keeper will counterattack the three circles in front of it. Repeat as necessary. Whenever Glyph Mines show up on the circles, use the Trigger command Move to get the heck out of there before the mines kill you. Aeons can be summoned, but Glyph Mines will kill them because they cannot move, so use their Overdrives right away.

Getting the Holy spell for Yuna before this fight is invaluable. Yunalesca has three forms, only the third of which can be overkilled. Her first form has 24,000 HP; the second has 48,000 HP; and the third has 60,000 HP (and can be overkilled by inflicting 10,000 damage.) Her first form uses only physical attacks, so don't waste any special attacks or Overdrives on it. She will respond to physical attacks with Darkness and spells by casting Silence; special attacks like Steal will cause her to cast Sleep. Just keep your party's HP high. Use this opportunity to have Tidus Hastega himself, Yuna, and Auron. Use Tidus's Cheer and then have Lulu use Reflex and Focus (make sure Yuna is in the party when this happens!) Wear her down with physical attacks until she changes forms. She will then unleash Hellbiter, which causes the Zombie status, and then cast curative magic. At the beginning of this form's attacks, you can cure the status with Holy Water, but as this form's HP gets lower, find a way to deal with it that doesn't involve curing the status (possibly switching out characters). When Yunalesca enters her third form and uses the Mega-Death attack, any character not afflicted with Zombie will die instantly. Use Yuna's Dispel to remove Regen from Zombied characters. She should also be casting Holy every chance she gets, or unleashing aeons' Overdrives on Yunalesca. This fight is difficult, but not impossible.

This battle is pretty simple. Have Tidus start by using Hastega on himself, Yuna, and Lulu. Have Yuna cast Shell on everyone and Lulu use Doublecast with either Flare or Ultima. (If you have her ultimate weapon, or any weapon with Half MP or One MP, just go for Ultima. It makes life that much easier.) You can also summon aeons and use their special attacks if you haven't levelled Lulu up enough for Ultima, Flare, or Doublecast. You can use the Trigger Commands to move the ship closer to Sin and pound it physically with Tidus, Auron, and Kimahri, but if you do that, be sure to move the airship away after everyone has had a turn, because Sin's attacks do much more damage at close range. Don't bother using your Overdrives; you will need them later. (However, if you are prone to charge up your Overdrives very quickly, go ahead and do so.)

The Sinspawn will absorb any magic that you cast at Sin, so be sure that you take care of it first. Cast Slow on it and then use Silence, which will prevent it from casting Cura on itself. It is weak against Fire, so launch Lulu's Firaga at it. You can also pound it with Holy, Ultima, Flare, and physical attacks.

For this battle, if Rikku or Kimahri has Copycat, they will be one of the most useful party members. Rikku can Use Al Bhed Potions to cure the Venom that Sin Core inflicts. For damage, have Lulu Doublecast Flare or Ultima and Yuna cast Holy, then have Rikku or Kimahri Copycat the Holy spell. Keep your Overdrives in reserve for the next fight, which is significantly more difficult.

Before this fight starts, equip armour that protects you against Confusion, Zombie, and Petrification. Start out with Tidus, Yuna, and Lulu. Tidus' first action should be Hastega on the party. Have Yuna use Holy and Lulu Doublecast Flare or Ultima. Use Armor Break and Mental Break to reduce its defense. Quick Attack is also helpful. Unleash all your most powerful Overdrives to take Sin donw as fast as you can.

By far the simplest way to defeat Seymour is, as always, to summon aeons in Overdrive and slaughter him with their attacks. If you'd prefer to do it the difficult way, make sure that you start out with characters who are equipped with armor that either nullifies or absorbs elemental attacks. The wheels behind Seymour will determine his current elemental property as well as the one he is going to be weak against. (Orange = Fire, Yellow = Thunder, Blue = Water, White = Blizzard). You can attack them (you will need Wakka to hit the highest one) to alter his elemental properties. Null spells are incredibly helpful in this battle. Have Lulu Doublecast his elemental opposite for extra damage. Seymour also likes to cast Ultima on your party, so beware of that.

Note: I do not have full information on Braska's Final Aeon and Yu Yevon at this time, so I will give general strategies.

The best party for this battle, in my opinion, is Tidus, Yuna, and Auron. Don't even bother damaging the Yu Pagodas. Instead, have Auron use Zombie Attack on it so the Pagodas hurt instead of heal. Have Tidus Hastega everyone and then use Quick Attack or his Overdrives repeatedly. Yuna should cast Holy and keep the party healthy. When it switches to its second form, you'll see an Overdrive gauge on the screen. Tidus has a Trigger Command option to talk to the boss and reduce its Overdrive gauge; save this for when the gauge is almost full, because it will only work a couple of times. Use your aeons' overdrives to finish off this battle.

Fortunately for you, it's absolutely impossible to lose this battle. Every party member automatically gets a permanent Auto-Life status. Every time you strike Yu Yevon, it will automatically Curaga itself for 9999 HP. The solution is to unleash Auron's Zombie Attack on it so that it keeps hurting itself when it tries to heal itself. After you take down Yu Yevon, you will be forced to defeat each one of Yuna's Aeons. The Auto-Life spell continues into this part of the battle, so even when they unleash their Overdrives, you should still be fine. When you're finished, sit back and enjoy the ending!

Use Tidus, Wakka, and Rikku. Simply hit hard with abilities like Quick Hit. If Rikku has any Black Magic, you can use that to help take it down. By the time you're able to return to this boss, it doesn't really present a challenge!

You'll want to protect yourself against Confusion, Petrification, and Silence. Try to inflict Darkness or Silence on him to reduce the power of his attacks, but one or two solid hits from an Overdriven aeon like Bahamut or Anima should just make him die. Make sure to steal from him first, and Bribe him if you can afford it!

Since Omega is functionally immune to damn near everything, have Kimahri grab Nova by using Lancet, let everyone but Yuna take a turn guarding to get the AP bonus, and then have Yuna summon an Overdriven Magus Sisters. They will squish Omega like a bug.

Well, that's it for this boss guide! I hope you found it helpful!
